Teaching a language is both super difficult and super easy. That’s contradictory but if you’ve taught a number of years, I think you’ll also see the logic and sense in that statement.
One of our main jobs is to give students “time on task”, time speaking English, negotiating meaning, dealing with ambiguity tolerance etc … It’s both easy and difficult. Easy, just discuss X. Difficult, just discuss X. All about generating student interest.
One great way to weave through this difficulty is to give variety to the topics – keep things moving. No better way then to use quick, varied prompts. See our online generators which make this super easy to do. Or make your own topic cards. Students choose one, make a statement, others must ask at least one follow-up question. Then onto the next card!
